About Jihan
Jihan Zakarriya is Associate Professor in Arabic Studies at the University of Copenhagen. She leads the ERC-funded GulfFeminisms project (2023–2028), which investigates how feminisms in Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE mobilize legal frameworks—including Sharia—to advance women’s rights and agency in the Gulf. She completed a PhD in English literature at Cardiff University where she compares South African and Palestinian resistance literature from a postcolonial, contrapuntal perspective. She also held a Fulbright fellowship at the University of Michigan and was an AIAS-COFUND MSCA fellow at Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies.
